What to look out for

  • A welcome rate is temporary. After it ends you get the bank’s normal rate, so look at that rate too.
  • Often the offer only applies up to a maximum amount. Above it, you get the normal rate.
  • Most offers come from banks without a regulated savings account. Then you pay 30% withholding tax from the first euro. The calculator counts that.
  • At every bank your savings are protected up to € 100,000 per person by the deposit guarantee scheme.
